SKYSCANNER combined a consumer poll and flight search and booking data from APAC, EMEA and the Americas to provide a view of travel demand as at Q1 2022. Key findings:

• 86% of travelers plan to spend more or the same on international travel than they did in 2019, with half planning to spend more

• Of those spending more, 48% are putting this money on longer trips and 43% on better accommodation upgrades. But travelers remain price conscious

• Shorter booking horizons remain popular in all regions, but there’s growth in 30 to 59-day segment and 60-89-day segment as confidence to travel and seasonality starts to return

• Seasonality is reflected in growing demand for longer holidays in key summer and winter periods

• Demand for domestic and shorthaul flights is higher than pre-pandemic, but longhaul travel is making a comeback

• Travelers cite ultimate relaxation holidays, followed by bucket list travel and city breaks, as the top trip types for this year

• Doha is the world’s top trending destination, with the biggest rise in searches over the last three years.

WEGO/CLEARTRIP

Wego and Cleartrip recently polled close to 4,400 residents of the UAE and Saudi Arabia on their travel readiness. Key findings:

• According to Wego’s data, summer 2022 will be all about long holidays and travelers will be spending more on leisure travel to make up for the lost time

• Four to 7-day trips rose 100% while 8–11-day trips rose 75%, according to Wego data

• Wego saw a 66% percent increase in searches for five-star hotels that follow stricter measures that give them a safer travel experience

• Travelers are significantly more comfortable planning travel in advance after more streamlined processes have been put in place

• Popular destinations are judged by number of Covid-19 cases, travel requirements and ease of moving around

• Most booked destinations:
UAE: India, Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar, Nepal, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Georgia, Turkey

Trip.com Group shares booking data for the month of April that rocks:

• Thailand: Overall bookings (including flights, accommodation, car rental and tickets/tours) were up 85% year-on-year on its Thailand site. Standalone flight bookings increased 73% year-on-year, with accommodation bookings significantly up (130%)

• South Korea: Flight bookings rose 383% year-on-year in April, after a 39% increase in March over March 2021. FlightGlobal reported 420 weekly international flights into the country in April, just under 9% of pre-pandemic levels. Outbound flight bookings on its Korean site tripled in April, compared with February. Overseas hotel bookings grew 60% and 175% in March and April respectively, compared with February. Most popular international routes were to Vietnam, Philippines, the US, Thailand and Indonesia

Vietnam: Domestic hotel bookings in the country are up 247% year-on-year. International flight bookings shows an uplift of 265% year-on-year
