Cronin Resigns From Wharf Hotels, Salg is Successor

Jennifer Cronin: Leaving behind “passionate leaders [at Wharf Hotels] who have prepared their hotels for the post-pandemic travel environment.”

The number of female CEOs running hotel chains is still few and far between. The resignation of Jennifer Cronin as president of Hong Kong-based Wharf Hotels makes it one less.

Cronin rose to the top after more than 20 years working in Asia’s gateway cities. During her eight years with Wharf Hotels, starting as vice president sales and marketing, she strengthened the foundation of Marco Polo Hotels and introduced Niccolo Hotels.

Cronin will be returning to Australia when her stint is up on April 30. Her successor is Thomas Salg, currently vice president operations of Wharf Hotels of four years.

Salg joined Marco Polo Hotels in 2013 as general manager of Marco Polo Shenzhen, and was area general manager of Marco Polo Hotels Hong Kong before assuming his current role in 2017.

He will inherit an organization with “passionate” people supported by a parent company that believes in its people and delivers on its promises, said Cronin.

“Together with an inspiring group of hoteliers across our group, we have punched above our weight and built an organization by adopting best practices that are the envy of larger international hotel groups,” she said.

“At the heart of the organization is our dynamic, hard-working and passionate leaders who have prepared their hotels for the post-pandemic travel environment, and will most certainly be ahead of the curve. I could not be more proud of their efforts especially over the past two years and I am confident that the longterm future is bright for travel and tourism.”
