A former general counsel at Jumeirah and Marriott hotel groups, Koh Tien Gui, has joined Withers in Singapore as partner.

Koh, who was most recently a partner at another international law firm in Singapore, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, joins Withers at a time the hotels and hospitality market in Asia is “poised for a strong recovery post-pandemic”, said Withers’ CEO, Jeremy Wakeham.

Wakeham described Koh as “truly a hotel and hospitality insider”, having served as legal advisor, hospitality entrepreneur, investor, operator and in-house lawyer with major hotel groups, and advised clients on cross-border transactions across Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia and Thailand.

Koh advises on hotel management, franchise and leasing agreements, joint ventures, acquisitions, on-site consulting related to hotel operations, and disputes and arbitration.

He is also currently an independent director of Travelodge Asia, owned by Singapore-listed company ICP, which acquired the rights to the Travelodge brand name in 22 Asia-Pacific territories and countries, excluding Australia and New Zealand, in 2014.
